Tip For The Plein Air Artist

Tip For The Plein Air Artist

Painting on location is an incredible experience. As a plein air artist, we often feel a surge of excitement when heading out to find the perfect spot. However, this enthusiasm can sometimes make it difficult to settle on a composition or the best angle to capture.

What usually draws an artist’s attention is the inner play of light and the shapes within a scene. The way light moves through a landscape can be mesmerizing, leading to endless searching for the “perfect” subject.

This can become a challenge-spending too much time deciding may leave less time to paint or make it hard to commit to a single scene. Worse, later options might not feel as compelling as the first.

The best advice? Paint what initially caught your eye! Trust your instinct and go with what inspired you in the first place
